Needing to find your own embassy while traveling rarely has to do with good news, but the subject does come up fairly often anyway. If you’ve lost your passport in Belize you might be in for some headaches unless you are from one of the bigger countries listed below. Since embassy and consulate information for Belize is otherwise difficult to find, we’ve compiled as much as we could here for easy reference.

Not many people seem to realize that Belize City hasn’t been the capital of the country in many decades. That honor goes to the small city of Belmopan, which is about 50 miles west of Belize City, and fortunately, it’s fairly cheap and easy to get there if you need to.

Embassies and consulates in Belize

Canada

The Consulate of Canada is a small office in Belize City. It handles most passport and other basic traveler services, but if you need something more important or unusual you’ll have to contact the Canadian Embassy in Guatemala, which is in charge of the Belize Consulate here.

United States

In late 2006 the United States moved its embassy from Belize City to Belmopan. It handles all traveler services and all other embassy functions in full. It’s easy to get there from most cities in Belize, with several buses each day from most places.

The UK Embassy is also located in Belmopan, and also provides full services for travelers and expats alike.
